Seas & Oceans
In the field of wildlife and wilderness photography, working under water is one of the most challenging disciplines. In many ways it is completely different from making photographs on land, and post-processing underwater photographs can be equally challenging.
A relatively new discipline for me, it has taken quite a bit of time to better understand aquatic fauna and flora and using the special photographic equipment required for underwater photography. My first attempts at this started a long time ago (Pulau Perhentian, Malaysia). In recent years I finally got the opportunity again to spend more time in the oceans. With photographic equipment having improved significantly in the meantime, I very much enjoy packing my faithful Nikon D850 into a Nauticam underwater case, using either a 16-35mm wide-angle or a 100mm macro lens, and exploring reefs and sandy slopes during day and night dives. The photographs in this gallery have been made in the Maldives (South Ari Atoll), in Malaysian Borneo (Lankayan island), and in Indonesia (Raja Ampat, the Banda Sea, and the Komodo archipelago.
